Laid over a sound existing slab instead of excavating it, which is the case that makes thin terrazzo worth specifying at all. Thickness here is a substrate question: what the old floor is made of decides the prep, the bonding system and whether 8 mm is thin enough to be stable over it. Movement joints are set at 4 ft for the cement-bound system because the binder shrinks as it hydrates — the joint spacing is not a preference, it is the shrinkage, and it is why a thin cement tile still needs a joint pattern. Over a heated floor the system changes entirely.
| System | Thickness (mm) | Weight (kg/m2) | Joint spacing | Specified for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Resin thin-set | 6.4-9.5 | 14.6-19.5 | 15-20 ft, any shape | interior |
| Polyacrylate | 9.5 | 20.9 | as the system requires | interior or exterior |
| Monolithic | 12.7 | 23.3-32.6 | as the system requires | poured in place |
| Bonded | 44.5-57.2 | 83.9-102.6 | 4 ft grid | interior or exterior |
| Sand bed | 63.5-76.2 | 122.1-146.4 | as the system requires | needs a recessed slab |
Thickness and weight figures: NTMA terrazzo systems table (thickness and weight by system). Source. Our weight is quoted for the panel as supplied and moves with the aggregate you choose, so a figure for your mix is a figure we send you, not one this table can hold.
Made to order against a batch. This is our thin series and we build it to the thickness, format and finish you specify, rather than holding it in stock. The thickness shown is the range we supply in this form; the finished panel is cut to your layout, so the format is a maximum and the offcut depends on your drawing.

Quoted against thickness, format, finish, quantity and the substrate it has to meet. Tell us the form, the thickness and the area and we will send the relevant pages back with the price and the lead time on the same message.
Reference images. These photographs illustrate the material and the finish. They are not photographs of goods we made, and the colour on screen is not a colour-match. We quote against a real batch, so ask for a sample before you specify.
