The decision that matters is whether the piece is cut before or after it is fixed. Cut before delivery and the joint is a variable you control; cut after and the joint takes whatever the substrate does. Where a template exists, cutting before delivery is almost always cheaper than trimming on site, because on-site trimming is slow and usually takes the face off.
